Catherine Hirst Obituary

Catherine Hirst passed away peacefully at the Hospice House on Friday February 20, 2026, with her daughter and son-in-law at her side.

She was born on October 7, 1933, in Rochester, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Oakland A. and Cecilia E. Chelba Valentine.

Catherine graduated from East High School and started working at General Electric and later worked for Boardman Schools as a custodian, until her retirement.

She married John Hirst on May 28, 1960, and sadly he passed away on September 19, 2007.

Catherine leaves to cherish her memories, daughters Jackie (Joe) Nemeth of New Middletown, with whom she made her home. Debbie Kovach of Butler Pennsylvania and her grandchildren, Rebecca Borosky (Travis Henry), Jon (Sara) Borosky and Joseph Borosky. Her great-grandchildren; Nathan, Kayleigh, Joey and Brennen Borosky, Landon Smith.

Her daughter-in-law Theresa Borosky of Frost Wood MD., and her aid and bestie Brittny Hampton.

Besides her parents and her husband Catherine was preceded in death by her brothers Charles, Bernie, Robert, James and Paul Valentine, and her sisters Margaret Cheslock and Mary Smith.

Per Catherine's wishes there is to be no services, she will be buried next to her husband at the Lutheran Cemetery of New Springfield.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Edward J. Fox & Sons Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. Boardman.
