Catherine Allean Joines, 87, of Woodbine MD, peacefully passed away on November 24, 2025.
She was the beloved wife of 45 years to the late Aubrey “Ed” Joines, who passed on February 1, 2025.
Born Catherine Allean Moore on August 6, 1938 to the late Joseph L and Frances (Costello) Moore in Washington D.C.
Cathy was delighted to be from the nation’s capital and grew up in DC until her teen years, when her family moved to Prince George’s County, Maryland. From an early age, Cathy learned the value of working hard. She worked at the nickel and dime store for many years. In 1971, she started working as an office administrator for Bruning Paint Company before later working at National Geographic Society, handling international orders. Once she retired, she focused on her home and taking care of her family.
Cathy was an accomplished and dedicated bowler. She competed both individually and on teams, and holds several championships and league-high scores. She was a skilled bowler and was diligent at improving her craft. She was always grateful to bowling for the friends and memories. In her later years, Cathy became “Grammie” to everyone amongst the girls (Diana, Sarah, and Karen) involvement in sports, 4-H, Girl Scouts, FFA, dance, and any jobs the girls had as teenagers.
A regular attendee of Calvary Baptist Church in Westminster, MD, Cathy knew her salvation was in Christ alone, and the grace of God has brought her to his eternal home in Heaven. Her family finds comfort in knowing she lives forever with her Savior.
She is survived by her daughter Dr. Karen Joines of the home. Additionally, she is survived by a step-daughter Treva Joines of FL, two granddaughters, Diana Garnett of MD and Sarah Langdon of FL, her nephews William Hendricks and Wellman “Dean” Hendricks, her niece, Betty Hagenbach, and nine great-grandchildren: Kylie, Paige, Alexavier, Cassandra, Aurora, Damien, Nathan, Ronald, and James, and countless other family members and beloved friends.
In addition to her loving husband, Cathy was proceeded in death by her parents, Joseph and Frances, two sisters, Louis and Betty, brother Wilmer, step daughter Barbara, two grandchildren Eddie and Cindy, several nephews and nieces, and many other beloved family members and friends.
Her family will receive family and friends on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Church, 3200 Ridge Road, Westminster MD with a visitation from 9:00am to 10:00am with funeral service starting at 10:00am with Pastor Tim Leaman officiating.
Interment with grave-side service will be held at Joines Cemetery, Sparta NC
