Catherine Maytan Obituary
Mrs. Catherine Maytan, a lifelong Herkimer resident, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, August 8, 2023 at Foltsbrook Center for Nursing and Rehab, Herkimer, at the age of 102.
She was born in Herkimer on Sept. 24, 1920 and was last employed wiht the Allegro Shoe Factory, Little Falls. Survivors include her beloved family; her son, Walter Maytan and wife Joyce, daughter, Gail Balderston of South Carolina, and she was predeceased by her son, Paul Maytan and son in law, Charles Balderston. Survivors also include her cherished grandchildren, Lori Harwood and husband John, Sherri Maytan, adored great grandchildren, Jenna, Emily, Nicholas, Liam, Benjamin, Grace, Rachel; adored great great grandchildren, Janelle, Charles, Oliver and Jaelynn.
Funeral arrangements are being handled under the direction and care of the locally owned and operated Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5, between Little Falls and St. Johnsville, 315-508-5131. There will be a graveside service that will take place at the convenience of Catherine's family at Mt. View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls with the Rev. Joseph Famulare, pastor of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Little Falls, officiating. There are no calling hours.

One can only smile and feel grateful and joyous for just the pleasure in knowing Catherine, as no matter her age she always seemed to have a smile on her face and was a pleasure to visit with at family events over the many years. May God grant you eternal rest Catherine, you sure did earn it and may your memory be eternal! Thank you so very much in your raising of Uncle Walt as our family has been greatly enriched by that effort. Deepest condolences to the immediate family, you were Blessed.

Mrs. Maytan was a lovely, hardworking lady. I spent many hours at her home on John St., Little Falls playing with her daughter, Gail. The world is a better place because she touched it with warmth, goodness and grace.
