With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Catherine "Cathie" Morgan on August 26, 2024, at her home in Tampa, Florida. Born in Oil City, Pennsylvania, Cathie spent most of her life in Pittsburgh before retiring to Florida, where she continued to embrace life with grace and kindness.
Cathie is survived by her children, Randy Rubin of California and Rachel Rubin of Tampa, who were the light of her life. She leaves behind three beloved grandchildren-Aidan, Ben, and Bella Rubin-and her great-granddaughter Emmalynn Rubin, along with a great-grandson soon to join the family. She is also mourned by her siblings-John, Joe, Chuck, Sue, Betsy, and Babby-and a host of nieces and nephews scattered across the country. As one of seven children, Cathie was the glue that held the family together, often shouldering the responsibility of caring for her younger siblings and later, nurturing her own children with the same love and devotion. In recent years, Cathie reconnected with her junior high school sweetheart, Terry Hatrick, and together they created cherished memories, sharing laughter and love until her final days.
A graduate of Carlow College in Pittsburgh, Cathie earned a degree in Music Education and went on to teach at an inner-city school in Pittsburgh. Her passion for education extended into her involvement with PTAs and school boards throughout her married life. Cathie's love for the arts was evident in her active participation with the Pittsburgh Symphony and her many contributions to community organizations. She was a dedicated advocate for the betterment of others, always striving to make a positive impact.
Cathie was a woman of many talents and passions. Whether it was baking a cake, which she would meticulously perfect, or forming a neighborhood book club complete with themed meals and costumes, Cathie approached everything she did with creativity and enthusiasm. Her love for life was infectious, and she had a unique ability to make every moment special.
In keeping with her wishes, Cathie requested no formal service or donations in her name. Instead, she would find comfort in knowing that those whose lives she touched would carry on her legacy by embracing knowledge, reading more-perhaps even her favorite magazine, -The New Yorker - and striving to make the world a better place.
As Helen Keller once said, "What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Cathie's memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her, and she will be deeply missed by all.
We invite you to share your fondest memories below, ensuring that Cathie's spirit continues to be a part of our lives.
