Catherine Ann Morrison, 90, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on April 13, 2025.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M., Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Catherine was born in San Antonio, Texas on February 1, 1935, to Mable C. Reed-Slack and Adriel M. Slack. She married Jimmy King Morrison in Austin, Texas at Decker United Methodist Church on April 14, 1956.
Catherine attended the University of Texas in Austin where she received her bachelor’s degree. She worked in Austin, Texas as a dietician at various hospitals. On July 18, 1973, her family was transferred from Austin to Amarillo, Texas. While in Amarillo, Catherine worked as a dietician at Elizabeth Jane Bivins Nursing Home, Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, and Bivins Memorial Nursing Home where she became the Director of Food Services. She also worked in Stratford, Texas from January of 1990-2000 as a Food Services Consultant at Coldwater Manor. She especially enjoyed this job because it allowed her to work closely with her daughter Martha. Catherine viewed her work as a true passion and never a job. She was a loving and caring Supervisor and stayed in touch with all of her cooks throughout the years.
Catherine especially loved the holidays and would make sure they were festive and fun. She would make seasonal food and each year at Christmas would make tamales with her family. She was also gifted at making divinity. Catherine’s favorite food to eat was liver and onions. She made the best hamburgers and fried chicken.
Catherine loved to read nautical stories and mysteries. One of her favorite authors was John Grisham. She also enjoyed watching murder mysteries. She always knew who the murdered was at the very beginning.
Catherine enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. She was proud of her children for obtaining their bachelor’s degrees and especially proud of her granddaughter Shermila. Shermila received her master’s degree in economics from the University of Alabama in May of 2016, and then attended Harvard and received her Law Degree in May of 2019.
Catherine’s sense of humor was quite entertaining. She described her water pump going out on her ’72 Chevy as a “battleship breaking up!”
Catherine became a member of Polk Street Methodist Church in 1973.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; husband, Jimmy King Morrison on March 9, 2009; and sons, Walter Burke Morrison on April 20, 2011, and Luke McCabe Morrison on January 29, 2022.
She is survived by her daughters, Martha Anne Morrison Petschelt, Lillie Kate Morrison, and Bonnie Belle Morrison; granddaughter, Shermila Alice Kher Sundquist and husband Davy; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
