Catherine Sawyer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Snowden Funeral Home - Rockville on Dec. 3, 2025.
Catherine Loretta Hall-Sawyer, affectionately known as "Cathy," peacefully entered into the presence of the Lord on November 24, 2025. She was born on July 24, 1958, in Washington, DC, to the late Lawrence Hall and the late Eleanor Offutt. Cathy's life was a beautiful reflection of grace, strength, and unwavering faith.

Cathy received her education through MCPS and graduated from Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD. She went on to build a dedicated career as a File Clerk at GEICO, where she served faithfully for 17 years and was known for her warm spirit and gentle demeanor.

Cathy gave her life to Christ at a young age, and her faith remained the foundation of who she was. She was a loving wife to her late husband, Robert Sawyer, Sr., for over 50 years, and a devoted mother who raised her children with the same spiritual grounding that guided her own life. Cathy loved being in the house of the Lord, and her days were shaped by her commitment to God and her family. She supported, uplifted, and loved her children unconditionally.

Cathy's happiest moments were spent surrounded by the people she cherished-her husband, her children, her grandchildren, and especially her beloved sisters, nieces, and nephews. Her smile could brighten any room. Though soft-spoken, she possessed a wonderful sense of humor and a warmth that drew others close. She was also an amazing cook, and her meals brought comfort and joy to countless family gatherings.

Cathy leaves to cherish her loving memory her son, Robert Sawyer Jr., and her daughter, Jasmine Hawkins (son-in-law Craig Hawkins); her three sisters, Elizabeth Sewell, Jacqueline Offutt (brother-in-law Darryl Houston), and Rachel Hall; her two brothers, Mike Offutt (sister-in-law Desi Offutt) and Gary Hall; her sister-in-law, Mary Sawyer; her brother-in-law, Elwood Sawyer; and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She is lovingly remembered by her nine grandchildren: Iyanna Sawyer, Jordan Hawkins, Ta'nyi Queen, Paris Hawkins, Kollin Sawyer, Taizon Sawyer, Sanaa Miles, De'lahni Sawyer, and Legend Sawyer.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Sawyer Sr, her son, Delondre Sawyer and sister Nellie Phillips.

Cathy's legacy of love, faith, and grace will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
