Catherine P. Scheider, 84, of Waretown, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025.
Born on December 27, 1940, in Summit, NJ, to Dominic and Filomena Pulcino, Catherine-affectionately known as Kay-lived a life full of love, family, and dedication. She met the love of her life, Glenn, and the two married on October 8, 1960. Together, they raised two children in Springfield, NJ.
Catherine worked as an Administrative Assistant for Chubb Insurance in Warren, NJ, before retiring. She and Glenn lived on their beloved Deerfield Farm in Long Valley, NJ, before settling in Waretown in 2009, where their waterfront home became known as "the flower house" to boaters passing by. She took immense pride in her home, her garden, and most of all, her relationships.
In her younger years, Catherine loved traveling with Glenn, attending Elks Lodge #1154 meetings in South Orange, horseback riding, gardening, cooking for large gatherings, and helping raise her grandchildren. She was a steady and loving presence-never missing a school function, sporting event, or school project.
Catherine was the heartbeat and matriarch of her family. Her greatest joy was bringing her loved ones together through her labors of love-especially her beautifully set tables, floral arrangements, and legendary holiday meals. She greeted everyone with a warm "Bongiorno!" and a grateful "Buona sera," always ensuring guests left with full hearts and full bellies. Her endless love, loyalty, and selfless devotion were the foundation of her family.
Proud of her Italian heritage, Catherine shared her culture through her cooking and made sure to pass down treasured family recipes-especially her famously loved meatballs. She was an active member of the Italian Cultural Society of LBI for many years and worked hard on perfecting speaking proper Italian later in life. She also volunteered with the Adult Literacy Program, giving back to her community.
Catherine was predeceased by her sister, Margaret Iannelli, and her brother, Louis Pulcino. She is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Glenn Scheider; her loving children, Glenn Scheider and wife Lynn, and daughter Nancy Scheider; her cherished grandchildren, Austin Scheider, Abigail Scheider, Stephen Locrotondo, Jordyn Mercurio and husband Tyler; and her adored great-grandson, Luca. She also leaves behind her loving sister, Rosie Neubauer, and many dear nieces and nephews.
She will live forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Riggs Funeral Home, 130 North Rt. 9,
