Catherine Elizabeth Schlupf
February 16, 1937 – February 4, 2025
Catherine Elizabeth Schlupf was born on February 16, 1937, in The Bronx, NY, to Edward and Catherine Barrell. As the eldest of five siblings, she was raised in Bellerose, NY, and graduated from Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School. In 1958, she earned a degree in Sociology from Hunter College. After college, Cathie met the love of her life, John Schlupf, and they married on November 21, 1959. Together, they raised their two children, John and Carole, in Freehold, NJ, where Cathie dedicated herself to helping others in her role as a hospital Social Worker. In 2000, Cathie and John relocated to Northern Virginia to be closer to family. Cathie appreciated life's simple joys, like relaxing at the beach, traveling, playing Mah Jong, reading, and spending quality time with her loved ones, especially her children and grandchildren.
Cathie passed away peacefully on February 4, 2025, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her son, John Schlupf (Beth), her daughter, Carole Gunn (Charlie), and her cherished grandchildren, Chandler Rombes (Niko), Demiah Schlupf, and Charlie, Catie, and Sean Gunn. Cathie was predeceased by her beloved husband, John, as well as her sisters, Patricia Byrne and Eileen Carney. She is also survived by her brothers, Robert Barrell and Thomas Barrell. In her final years, Cathie received loving care from Hirut Mankr and the dedicated staff at Brightview Fair Oaks. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org) in Cathie's memory.

My condolences to the family. I worked with Cathy at Point Pleasant Hospital and Brick Hospital. Cathy was such a wonderful person. She was my go to as I was very new in the profession and she always covered for me and taught me a great deal. I think of her often and recently met up with coworkers from back in the day and we thought of Cathy. May she rest in peace.

Dear John & Carol,
Barbara just told me about your mother's passing. I also worked with your mom at Pt. Pleasant and Brick Hospitals. We shared an office and we were buddies. I learned so much about our profession; she was a wonderful social worker. We had the best times with laughter and sometimes tears. She is missed. Please accept my sincere condolences.

To John and Carol,
I don´t know why I felt the need to google your mom´s name but sadly, I read of her passing. I worked with your Mom at Point Pleasant and Brick hospitals. We worked together for a long time and became "work" friends. She and your Dad came to my wedding. Good memories. My heartfelt condolences to you both and to your family.
