Cathie Rae McDowell, born on April 16, 1968, in Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at the age of 57. Though born in Ohio, Cathie grew up and attended school in Pennsylvania. It was there that she first crossed paths with her future husband, Martin Luther McDowell, during their high school years. Life led them on different paths for a time, but they eventually reconnected, and their bond became unbreakable.

For over three decades, Cathie dedicated her life to the care and well-being of others as a registered nurse. Her career spanned 33 years, during which she worked tirelessly in various capacities, including in the emergency room, pediatrics, and home health. Her compassionate nature and unwavering commitment to her patients left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Growing up, Cathie was a devoted daddy's girl and embraced her tomboy spirit by playing softball, a sport she loved passionately. As life progressed, her love for family only grew stronger. Being a grandmother brought her immense joy, and she cherished every moment spent with her beloved grandchildren. Whether it was watching movies, dancing, or simply hanging out watching Steeler's games, Cathie made sure that family time was treasured, despite her demanding work schedule.

Cathie's love for music took her and Martin to countless concerts, where they shared unforgettable experiences together. Among her favorite memories were sitting front row at a George Strait concert and enjoying performances by Eric Clapton and the Foo Fighters. The beach was another cherished place for Cathie, where she found peace and happiness.

Preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Ray Silbaugh and Janet Daughtery Silbaugh, Cathie leaves behind her loving husband, Martin Luther McDowell; her three sons, Stephen Ray Wheaton, Thomas Ray McDowell, and Jesse Richie; seven adored grandchildren; and her dear sister, Tammi Rae Byers.

A service to celebrate Cathie's life will be held at a future date. Please check back for updates.
