LIBERTY TOWNSHIP – Cathleen L. "Cathy" Chill Milligan, 81, passed away peacefully Friday morning, Nov. 7, 2025, in the comfort of her home surrounded by the love of her family.
Cathy was born Feb. 7, 1944, in New Castle, Pa., a daughter of the late Nicholas and Lucy Print Chill.
After moving to Hamden, Conn., she joined the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy. She later attended Fordham University while teaching as a nun in New York City. Following several years of service, Cathy chose to leave the convent and returned to New Castle, where she taught at St. Vitus School and later at Sacred Heart School in Youngstown. She eventually settled in Youngstown and taught at St. Rose School in Girard while completing her education at Youngstown State University, where she met her future husband, Paul, through Catholic Alumni.
Once married, Cathy devoted her life to her family and faith. A longtime member of St. Rose Church, she shared her musical gifts as a minister and choir director for the children's and youth choirs, touching countless lives through her faith and joyful spirit.
Cathy was a talented watercolor artist who saw beauty in everyday life. She found happiness in her garden, joy in her kitchen, and fulfillment in hosting gatherings that brought loved ones together. She will be remembered for her warmth, her kindness, and her unshakable "love of life."
Cathy leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 52 years, Paul Milligan, retired Catholic deacon, whom she married Aug. 18, 1973; her daughter, Sarah (Andrew) Grasso of West Hartford, Conn.; her beloved grandson, William John Grasso of West Hartford; her brothers, Thomas (Patricia) Chill of Howland, Regis (Angie) Chill of Girard, and Martin (Mindee) Chill of Austintown; her sister, Christine Fisher of Niles; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
