Cathleen Vasquez Scarborough

Cathleen Vasquez Scarborough was born on March 24, 1952 to the late Horace Lee Nock, Sr. and Rosie Mae Garrison Nock. She departed this life on February 21, 2025 at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia, surrounded by family and friends.
Cathleen received her education in the Accomack County Public Schools and was a 1970 graduate of Central High School. After graduation, she entered the workforce at Perdue Farms, where she was a USDA Inspector for many years until her retirement. In later years, she decided to help others in a way that would bring joy to so many families. "Cat," as she often called by family and friends, provided help to those who did not want their loved ones to go into a nursing home. She became a caregiver at YLS Caring Hands. She will be missed tremendously because she treated her patients as though they were her own flesh and blood. She always went above and beyond the call of duty, always wearing a smile on her face, no matter how she felt.
Cathleen was married to Gerald N. Scarborough, Sr. Their union was blessed with their son, Gerald N. Scarborough, Jr. and stepdaughter, Michelle Sample, who departed this life on April 20, 2020. She and Gerald shared over forty years until his demise in 2019.
At an early age, Cathleen gave her life to Christ and joined Snead's Memorial Methodist Church Independent. She remained a faithful member until her demise.
Cathleen was known for her love and affection for others. If you were having a bad day you could count on her brightening up your day. She was a very kind and giving person and always tried to find the good in all, which is very rare these days. A kind word went a long way. She didn't believe in tit for tat, because she was always the peace maker. These traits will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memories: a son, Gerald N. Scarborough, Jr.; grandson, Gerald N. Scarborough, III; great-grandson, Kyaire King Scarborough; brother, Horace (Doris) Nock; sister, Viola Smith; stepbrothers, Dorsey Sanders, Kerwin Savage, Joseph Simpkins, and Zachary Savage; special nieces and nephew, Gail (Craig) Simpkins, Tracy (Johnny) Bowden, Kimberly (Toy) Talley, Karen Williams, Pam (Corine) Marshall, Fondtella (Mark) Baril, and Steve Nock; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
