Cathy Cotney Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Radney Funeral Home - Alexander City on Apr. 26, 2025.
Graveside Service for Mrs. Cathy Cotney, 61, of Jacksons Gap, will be Sunday, April 27, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the Hackneyville Cemetery. Bro. Phillip Holloway will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 27, 2025 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Cathy Cotney, a beacon of warmth and generosity, passed away surrounded by the love of her family. She leaves behind a legacy of joyful memories and a life lived with an open heart and open arms. Cathy's infectious laughter and loving spirit will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Born into the loving family of Refeil and Syble Jean Lawson, Cathy grew up with a strong sense of family and community, values that she carried with her throughout her life. She was a cherished sibling to Charles, Cindy, and Chadrick Lawson, and a beloved sister to Carol Pettus, who preceded her in death. Cathy's life was further enriched by her marriage to Gerald Lynn Cotney, with whom she shared many of life's greatest moments.
Cathy's role as a mother was one she held most dear. Her sons, James (Sheila) Bishop and Matthew (Haylie) Bishop, were the light of her life, and she reveled in their accomplishments and adventures. The joy of her family grew with the arrival of each grandchild and great-grandchild, totaling twenty-two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Each one brought a unique sparkle to her eye and an added burst of love to her heart.
Those who knew Cathy knew of her passion for life's simple pleasures. She was an ardent Alabama football fan, cheering on her team with fervor and excitement. She found peace and contentment in fishing, a pastime that allowed her to connect with nature and enjoy quiet moments of reflection. The thrill of a casino visit was also among her favorite indulgences, where she enjoyed the lively atmosphere and the company of friends.
Cathy's character was marked by her loving nature, friendly demeanor, and generous spirit. She was a person who gave without expectation and loved without condition. Her presence was a comfort and her kindness, a gift that she freely offered to everyone she met.
In addition to her immediate family, Cathy's memory will be cherished by her brother Charles (Kelly) Lawson, her sister, Cindy Singleton, and her brother, Chadrick (Jessica) Lawson. She was a treasured aunt to numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Cathy Cotney's journey through life was one of laughter, love, and the joy of connecting with others. As we say goodbye, we celebrate a life that was truly well-lived and a woman who made the world a brighter place. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire and guide us, and her memory will be a treasure that we carry with us always.
