Walter Olen Lowery Sr. passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026, at his residence, leaving behind a legacy of faith, hard work, generosity, and devotion to family and community.

Mr. Lowery was born on January 6, 1930, in Birmingham, Alabama, to John Winston Lowery and Lula Belle Knight Lowery. He carried the values of his upbringing throughout his life and was known by those who loved him as a faith-filled, generous, and friendly man whose presence brought comfort and encouragement to others.

He was a Christian and an active member of First Baptist Church Alexander City, where his faith remained an important part of his daily life. He loved the Lord, studied his Bible faithfully, and found strength and guidance in Scripture. He also enjoyed reading and spent much of his time learning and reflecting on the Word of God. His commitment to his faith was evident not only in his church involvement but also in the way he lived, served, and treated others.

Mr. Lowery attended the University of Alabama and later earned his real estate broker license, demonstrating both his determination and his desire to continue growing throughout his life. He built a long and respected career with Alabama Power, where he retired after 42 years of service. He began his career as a lineman and, through dedication and hard work, advanced to the position of controller. His years with Alabama Power reflected his strong work ethic, reliability, and steady leadership. He was admired by coworkers and friends for the integrity with which he carried out his responsibilities.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Lowery was deeply committed to serving others. He participated in several mission trips and helped in the building of a church in Ukraine, reflecting his generous spirit and willingness to use his time and talents in service to others. His life was marked by a sincere desire to make a difference, and he approached each opportunity to help with humility and compassion.

Mr. Lowery also enjoyed many personal interests that brought him joy throughout his life. He was an avid golfer and achieved four holes in one, a remarkable accomplishment that he cherished. He served as a marshal at Kelly Plantation in Destin, where he enjoyed the fellowship of others and the beauty of the game. One of his favorite contributions there was starting a weekly Bible study with his fellow golfers, combining two of his greatest passions, golf and the study of God's Word. Those gatherings were a reflection of who he was, a man who valued friendship, faith, and meaningful conversation.

He is survived by his son, Walter Olen Lowery Jr. and his wife, Tawana; his daughter-in-law, Rhonda Lowery; his grandchildren, Stephanie and Brian Ramm, Jarilyn and Bucky Alleman, Jordyn and Kevin Boyer; and his great-grandchildren, Cody and Blake Ramm, Maddie and Roman Boyer, and Tyrion and Tristan Alleman. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory and the example he set.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Mary Rebecca Lowery; his son, Robin Bruce Lowery; his grandson, Nicholas Lowery; and his parents, John Winston Lowery and Lula Bell Knight Lowery. He was blessed with a long marriage and a loving family, and the bonds he formed with them remained a source of strength and joy throughout his life.

Walter Olen Lowery Sr. will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his devotion to his family, and his kind and generous nature. He lived a full and meaningful life, guided by Christian values and a sincere love for others. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, and his legacy will remain an enduring example of a life well lived.
