Cathy Ann Kern, 56 years young of Martinsville, gained eternal rest on Monday, May 6th, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer beginning in 2013. Cathy's life began on Saturday, August 12th, 1967, in
Bedford, Indiana, when she was born to the late Shirley (Bowden) Gross.
In 1998, she moved to Martinsville from
Mitchell, Indiana, where she had lived for the first thirty-one years of her life. On June 19th, 1999, Cathy married the love of her life, Lonnie Dwayne Kern. The two were blessed with twenty-five years of beautiful marriage and friendship, as well as a loving family that Cathy absolutely cherished.
Her love for children was evident not only with her own, but also the hundreds of children she grew to know and love while working at the MSD of Martinsville. Cathy spent several years working in the cafeterias at the high school, East Middle School and Poston Elementary School before she was forced to take medical retirement in 2023. When she wasn't working, Cathy enjoyed taking pictures and above all, spending every moment possible with her husband, children and grandchildren.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her husband, Lonnie Kern of
Martinsville, IN; daughters, Kirah Moore (husband, Dustin) of Greenwood, IN, and Amber Payne (husband, Brian) of
Martinsville, IN; and her three beloved grandchildren, Bailey Yount, Nora Moore and Jack Moore.
Along with her mother, Cathy was preceded in death by a son, Jonathon Kern.
Cathy left her family with specific wishes that were faithfully carried out after her passing. She was buried in Nebo Memorial Park in Martinsville on Friday, May 10th, 2024, following a private committal service with her family present. Her final arrangements were entrusted to Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville.
