Cathy Mattson, age 70, of Girard, passed away peacefully on Thursday January 8, 2026, at Walnut Creek Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Erie, PA on September 13, 1955, a daughter of the late Dr. Robert and Ethel Hopkins.
Cathy graduated from Girard High School and went on to earn a degree from the University of Pittsburgh. She was the Director at the Northwestern Senior Center until her retirement. She had a special place in her heart for taking care of her daughter, Bobbi Jo, and helping seniors in her community. She enjoyed reading, bird watching, was an avid bee decor collector, liked to swim and loved being with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Norman Mattson; Aunt, Mary Evelyn Hopkins; brother, Robert (Bo) Hopkins; nephew, Matthew Heier; daughter-in-law, Debra Mattson; and grandson, Eric Mattson.
She is survived by her two daughters, Bobbi Jo Mattson and Kristy Mattson; her five stepsons, Edward Mattson, James (Nancy) Mattson, Steven (Angella) Mattson, Daniel (Mona) Mattson and Timothy (Linette) Mattson; 15 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; her sister, Barbara (Steve) Heier; sister-in-law, Penny Hopkins; as well as, nieces and nephews, Kristen, Beth, Jonathan and Danielle.
Friends may call at Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East, Girard, on Tuesday January 13, 2026, from 4:00pm until 7:00pm and attend a funeral service on Wednesday at 11:00am. Burial to follow at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Barber National Institute, 100 Barber Place, Erie, PA 16507 and the West County Paramedics Association, 6852 Meadville Road, Girard, PA 16417.
