Cathy Sexton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Damar-Kaminski Funeral Home & Crematorium - Justice on Mar. 20, 2025.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cathy Sexton, who peacefully left this world surrounded by her family on January 20, 2025, after a valiant battle with brain and lung cancer, at the age of 68. Preceded in death by her parents, Mary Sexton (nee Moran) and Joseph Sexton, she is survived by her beloved daughter, Lauren Andersen, and her younger brother, Joe Sexton. She is also survived by an extensive "family" of close relationship friends, which she collected throughout her life.
Born in 1956, she was raised on the northwest side of Chicago. Her interest in horses began at an early age at Parkway Stables in the Lincoln Park area. With the onset of urban renewal, the facility eventually relocated to Palos Hills, and Cathy anxiously followed. Her mother would shepherd Cathy, along with those others that were interested, on a 2-hour trek, by bus, to fulfil the desire to connect with that favorite equine friend. It was a deep feeling that she had throughout her life, and was one in which she would satisfy by helping other like-minded horse owners, through her kindness and caring when her services were in need. Her network of appreciative friends and clients is a vast one.
Cathy was employed full time at Illinois Bell for 14 years, until retiring to accept her dream job, raising her daughter. Later in life, Cathy returned to college and received her Bachelor's Degree in Journalism from Columbia College. She later went on to become The Circulation Director for the Justice Public Library, in the service of others.
A celebration of a full life will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, 4:00PM to 8:00PM, at Damar-Kaminski Funeral Home 7861 S 88th Ave Justice IL 60458. At a future date, a "Happy Gathering" of the numerous "family" members she touched will be held, when the weather is more cooperative, and folks can share their personal remembrances over some shared food and drink.
