Sr. Cdp Zita Telkamp

Sister Zita Telkamp departed this life on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. She was born in
Golden Eagle, Illinois, the third child of Mathias and Irene Ann (Eschbach)
Telkamp. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Lee and Matt, as well as an
infant sister Lois and is survived by two sisters, Doris Jacobsen and Patricia
Hoemmen, along with many nieces and nephews, and the Sisters of Divine
Providence and their Associates. In August 1949, she entered the
Sisters of Divine Providence, became a novice in 1950, and professed her
perpetual vows in 1955. Sister Zita earned a bachelor's degree from St. Louis
University and a master's degree from Dayton University. Throughout her career,
Sr. Zita dedicated herself to teaching and administration in the St. Louis, Missouri
and Illinois areas. She also held a leadership position with the Sisters in St. Louis
and was involved in the Business Office at Providence Heights. From 2008–
2020, Sr. Zita served as Director of La Posada Providencia in SanBenito, TX. She
was honored with the Catholic Extension Lumen Christi award in 2013. This
award came with a $10,0000 donation to further that ministry. During her tenure
at La Posada, she created a butterfly garden that attracted hundreds of Monarch
butterflies during their annual migration to Mexico. She had a passion for
gardening and culinary arts. She reflected on how the community's religious
symbol reminded her to make God's Providence visible. She also emphasized
being a "co-creator" of renewed hope for immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers
as they prepare for a "rebirth." Additionally, she highlighted the need to care for
the environment through recycling, renewing, and reusing, and to offer inclusive
hospitality to all. In remembrance of Sister Zita, a wake service will be held
on Sunday, July 20th at 7 p.m. and a Mass of Resurrection on Monday,
July 21st at 3 p.m. All events will take place in the Visitation Chapel of Kearns Spirituality Center, 9000 Babcock Boulevard, Allison Park, PA 15101. Please enter through The Commons. All events will be
