Cecil "Buggy" Hardiman Estes, Jr.

Cecil "Buggy" Hardiman Estes, Jr., 76, of Ruffin passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church with Pastor Lee Eggers officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 5:00 - 7:00 PM.

Cecil was born in Rockingham County to the late Cecil Hardiman Estes, Sr. and Hazel Pratt Estes. He was a 1965 graduate of Ruffin High School. Cecil graduated from the Industrial Education Center in Eden, NC in 1966. In 1968, Cecil married Linda Davis. He worked for 21 years at Vanier Graphics until their closing and then went to work for Karastan Rug Mill as a mechanic until his retirement. He was also an active member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church. 

The highlights of his life were the births of his children and grandchildren. He was a loving father and grandfather and enjoyed his time spent with them. His favorite activities were trips to Disney World, the beach and family gatherings. He enjoyed gardening and sharing vegetables with family and friends. He spent many hours in the chair in front of his garage watching traffic go by on Highway 700 in Ruffin, NC. He also enjoyed eating ice cream late at night. He never met a stranger and he could make a new friend anywhere. 

In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by his sister Debbie Lynn Estes. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda Davis Estes; son, Jon Hardiman Estes (Pam Bailey) of Reidsville; daughter, Lisa Estes Lutz (Erik) of Wake Forest; grandchildren, Mason Estes and Macie Lutz; brothers, Larry Estes (Cheryl) of Danville, VA, Earl Estes of Eden and Charles Estes (Teresa) of Ruffin; sister, Karen Estes McDaniel of Topsail Beach, NC and his loyal canine companion Jack.
