On Monday October 28, 2024, Cecil Lamar Criswell, 86, resident of Ripley, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home surrounded by family. A Graveside Service honoring the life of Mr. Criswell will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, October 31 in the Criswell Cemetery with Bro. James Pilgrim officiating.
Mr. Criswell was born August 2, 1938, in Decatur, TX, the only child of the late Cecil McKinley and Cora Essie Smith Criswell. He was a 1956 graduate of Pascagoula High School, served proudly in the United States Air Force and was employed as a Senior Mechanical Designer/ Model Builder for Ingalls Shipbuilding Corporation in Pascagoula before retiring in 2000.
After retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Criswell moved to Tippah County in 2005 and enjoyed "piddling", exploring Tippah County and became an avid woodworker. He loved Civil War history and was an active member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Tippah/Tiger Camp #868. His wood working talents can be explained by members of the Tippah/Tiger Camp:
"Compatriot Lamar Criswell passed away today, October 28. Lamar has been a member of the Tippah Tigers since 2009. He and his wife, Marsha, were active in the camp meetings and loved by all. Lamar served several terms as Camp Surgeon. One of the things Lamar was known for was his talent to make one-of-a-kind walking canes out of woods he would collect as he traveled. He was always looking for that special stick or tree to be used later for a walking stick. Each cane is unique and treasured. "
Loving memories will continue to be shared by his wife of 62 years, Marsha Gibbons Criswell, two sons, Dana Criswell (Julie) of Ripley and David Criswell (Tammy) of White House, TX, seven grandchildren, Janine Smith, Jonathan Criswell, Ella Embry, Veroncia Criswell, Joel Criswell, Josiah Embry and Lena Hester (Owen) and two great granddaughters, Ethel and Dorothy Smith.
The Ripley Funeral Home invites you to share memories.
