"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing." Timothy 4:7-8
A little over seven years fighting the good fight, our brother in Christ, Hal L. Jordan, age 69, shed his earthy body, exchanging it for his new Heavenly body, after departing this life on Monday morning February 24, 2025, at his home with family faithfully by his side.
Funeral services honoring the life of Mr. Hal will be at 11 AM Wednesday February 26, 2025, in the Heritage Chapel of the Ripley Funeral Home with lifelong friend, Bro. Doc Shelton and Bro. Jeff Moore officiating, along with daughter in law, Kelly sharing personal reflections. Visitation will be from 5 PM until 9 PM Tuesday evening February 25, 2025, at Ripley Funeral Home and will continue from 9 AM until time of service on Wednesday at Ripley Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow in Blackjack Cemetery, with Bro. Joe Spencer sharing words of comfort. For those unable to attend the services, it will be live streamed, and link will be provided below the obituary.
Mr. Hal was born March 9, 1955, in Ripley, Mississippi, to the late John Henry and Pauline Hopkins Jordan. He received his education and was a 1973 graduate of Ashland High School, where he met his sweetheart, Mrs. Gail Hubbard Jordan. Although Mrs. Gail would say she was not interested at first, the two dated through high school, even though most dates consisted of him and her sitting in her living room and never being out later than 11 PM, as that was her curfew and Mr. Hubbard has no problem flickering the porch light, letting her know it was time to come in. After about a year and a half, Mr. Hal popped the big question, and the two were married on July 5, 1974, in Hamiliton Baptist Church. In that same church, Mr. Hal confessed his faith and was baptized in 1983, were they continued worshiping the Lord there and he even served as a Sunday school teacher.
Together he and Mrs. Gail planted their roots in the Benton County Community, building a family and raising two boys. Most of Mr. Hal's life was spent as a mechanic in Benton and Tippah County. Many mornings headed to the log woods, always stopping for a "Ho Cake", as Mr. Hal called them, he and Doc Shelton worked together, before working with Tara Wildlife for a couple years doing what he thought was his passion, deer hunting. It wasn't long before his grandson's starting arriving in 2002, Mr. Hal wanted to be closer to home and them, as they were his pride and joy. While employed with ILM, he discovered the sport of golf, which soon became a passion of his. Most days were spent working at Shiloh Ridge golf course or playing a round or two with buddies somewhere else. Beyond his professional purists, Mr. Hal enjoyed attending church with his wife, at Falkner Baptist, where he was ordained in 2016 and served as a deacon, and was proud to wear the title, "Papaw". He thought his grandsons hung the moon, and loved attending their baseball games, always cheering them on.
Yet, even amidst the challenges life brought him and suffering from a stroke in 2018, which left him unable to do the many things he loved so much, if there was one thing Mr. Hal was, that was determined. No matter what the challenge was, he gave his all and never faltered in caring for his family more than he did himself. He continued to support all those he loved, continuously rooting for them, caring for them, and loving them. Although we will miss him dearly, what a glorious day it is knowing Mr. Hal has been healed, watching over all of his grandsons, swinging a golf club on heavens green courses, and sitting at the feet of his Savior, Jesus Christ.
In addition to his wife of fifty-one years, Mrs. Gail, memories will continue to be cherished by two sons, Chad Jordan (Kelly), and Johnathan Jordan (Mandy), one sister, Kim Jordan Potter (Ricky), mother-in-law, Lillie B. Hunsucker, sister-in-law, Debbie Bradford, five grandsons, John Devin Jordan, Maddox Jordan (Dixee), Jackson Jordan, Cooper Jordan, and Jace Baker, along with a multitude of friends, and family.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by grandparents, Lynard and Lovie Hopkins, and Ferrel and Bessie Jordan, father-in-law, J. W. Hubbard, and stepfather in law, Bud Hunsucker.
Those serving as pallbearers include Chad Jordan, Johnathan Jordan, John Devin Jordan, Maddox Jordan, Jackson Jordan, and Cooper Jordan.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kerry Roberson, Danny Hopkins, Jace Baker, and all his golf buddies.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to caretakers, Nita Stites and Veronica Boyle, for the care and devotion shown to Mr. Hal and them during his illness.
