Cecil Bruce Culbreth, II, 76, of Louisville, KY, passed into the loving arms of his God early in the morning of Wednesday, April 20, 2022. He is survived by his two beloved girls: his wife of fifty years, Marcene "Marcy" Culbreth, and his only daughter, Casey Culbreth. They were with him as he passed. He is also survived by his brothers Alan (Susan) and Mark Culbreth, his sister Ann Wilmoth, and his nephews Matthew (Chelsea), Adam (Erika), and John Culbreth.
Bruce was born March 31, 1946 in Fayetteville, NC to Cecil and Hazel Culbreth, Sr. After his family moved to Louisville during his high school years, Bruce graduated from the University of Louisville with a degree in Marketing. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, being stationed in Morehead, Kentucky. It was a fortuitous location, because while visiting an old army buddy in Morehead only months after being discharged, he met his lifelong friend and sweetheart, Marcy. They married in 1972.
Above all else, Bruce's life was defined by love especially his love for Marcy and their daughter, Casey. After trying to have a child for many years, Bruce and Marcy finally welcomed Casey into the world in 1986, transforming their lives forever. The couple morphed into a dynamic trio - the three musketeers.
Bruce was a respected manager and co-worker in the mortgage business for most of his working life. He was a past President of both the Mortgage Banker's Association of Louisville and the MBA of Kentucky. Known for being a person of faith, he was often asked to lead in prayer at MBA meetings, being dubbed, "prayin' Bruce."
An accomplished piano and guitar player, Bruce had an unending love for music. Even at the end of his life, Bruce was singing. He loved playing songs by Chopin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Peter, Paul, and Mary, and The Chad Mitchell Trio. In high school, he was a proud member of the folk group, "The Highlanders." Don Francisco was also a member of the band; they once opened for the opener for the Beach Boys.
Bruce exuded joy, light, warmth, and fun. He was exceedingly kind, desired to be helpful, and was always ready with an encouraging and insightful word. He believed in Jesus and desired to live out his faith in a way that made a difference in other people's lives.
His legacy is immeasurable and his life was well lived.
Please join Bruce's girls and family as they celebrate his life at Pearson's Funeral Home on Saturday, April 30th at 10 AM. The family will host a graveside service directly following at Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will also be held at Pearson's on Friday, April 29th, from 4-8 PM.

I first met Bruce through the MWF at St Paul Methodist Church during the early '60's. His guitar/piano playing, folk songs, and large personality made him a force in that youth group. I looked up to Bruce as another older brother. My condolences to Marcy, Casey, Alan, Susan and the rest of the family and the many other lives his love touched.
