Cecil Burton Pugh (Burt), age 95, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025, surrounded by his children. He was born to Cecil and Verna Pugh on May 25, 1930, in Kanab, Utah. By age 5 he was helping to care for the animals on his family's land and at age 14 stayed alone on his dad's ranch to shepherd the sheep. He grew up with a deep love for the land, his family, and learning.

Burt served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Western Canadian Mission from 1950–1952, where he met the love of his life, Grace. After returning home, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1952–1954. Burt and Grace were married on St. Patrick's Day in 1955 in the Cardston Alberta Temple, beginning a beautiful life together until her passing in 2012.

With 5 of his children already born, Burt earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Utah, and spent his life creating and innovating. He worked in electronics and computers, and was the inventor of the QuizMaster game and the LiquiVac. His brilliant mind was matched by a humble heart.

Alongside his technical gifts, Burt was a skilled rancher, cowboy, poet, puzzle solver and could fix anything. He loved making life magical for his grandchildren and was known for being kind, generous, funny, teasing, smart, protective, and hardworking.

Family was his greatest joy. He is survived by his brother Roger (Kathy) and his seven children-Scott (Sue), Lee (Daraleen), Kayleen, Lynn, Kenneth (Becky), Donald (Mary), and Melanie-along with 32 grandchildren and 62 great-grandchildren, all of whom he cherished deeply. He is preceded in death by his eternal sweetheart Grace, his sister Margaret (Mark) and grandson Gideon. Burt's life was one of devotion, gentleness, creativity, and quiet strength. He will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 21, 2025 at 11:00 am in the Lindon 21st Ward Chapel, 1050 East 100 North, Lindon, Utah. Family and friends may attend a viewing from 9:00 - 10:45 am prior to the service. Intermet will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com.

STEVE HEATON

November 19, 2025

I lived with the Cecil Pugh Family for a few months because my mother Annie McAllister Heaton had some major health issues and was not able to care for me. At that time I had two older sisters and two older brothers. I have very limited memory of living with the Pugh Family because I was very young, probably only twelve to twenty months of age. I grew up in Kanab and considered those years idealistic. Graduating from Kanab High School in 1961. Served a two year Mission for the LDS Church in Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. Married Judy Ann Hallman in 1966. We have nine children and 42 grand children.
After college, we moved to Van Nuys California and for eight years employed with the Government as an Internal Revenue Agent. We moved to St George and purchased the St George Blvd McDonald's Restaurant. We also built and owned additional McDonald's in Cedar City, Hurricane, and St George. Later we sold all our restaurants and built Zion Canyon Village (adjacent to Zion National Park).
