Cecil Johnson Rice Jr.

Cecil Johnson Rice, Jr., 89, of Griffin, died Thursday, September 25, 2025, at his home. Born in Griffin, April 25, 1936, he was a son of the late Cecil Johnson Rice, Sr. and Mary Frances Crowley Rice. Mr. Rice graduated Griffin Technical College and had owned and operated three personal care homes for over thirty years before retiring. He also formerly owned and operated a home for blind men who worked at the blind factory. He was a former manager of Griffin Grocery. He loved farming and taking care of cattle. Mr. Rice was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Timothy John Rice; granddaughter, Christy Forrester; and brother, Kenneth Rice. Survivors include his daughter, Loretta Ann Odom and Jean Maria Gibson and husband, David; sons, Raymond Scott Rice and Gerald Damion Rice and Pam Scott, all of Griffin; ten grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Clontz of Chicago, IL; brothers, William Rice, Sr. and Julian Rice, both of Griffin; numerous nieces and nephews; and long-time friend and care giver, Bill Brown of Griffin. Graveside funeral services for Cecil Johnson Rice, Jr. will be conducted Monday, September 29, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Oak Hill Cemetery with Deacon Ken Bishop officiating. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the graveside. There will be no formal visitation. Mr. Rice will lie in state at Haisten McCullough Funeral Home Monday morning from 8:00 Am until 10:00 AM for friends and family. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorials be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1323, Macarthur Drive, Griffin, GA 30224, in memory of Mr. Rice.
