Eddie Hugh Bethune Sr.

Eddie Hugh Bethune, Sr., 79, of Griffin, died Friday, January 16, 2026, at Brightmoor Hospice.

Born in Fayetteville, April 5, 1946, he was a son of the late Edgar and Catherine Chasteen Bethune. He formerly worked for Brown Electric Company, where he became an electrician and later worked for himself. After his health declined, Eddie helped his wife at their stable, Half-Halt Stables where she taught riding lessons and trained horses. He enjoyed working around the farm, especially bailing hay on his tractor. The two of them enjoyed rescuing animals, especially little dogs. He formerly enjoyed hunting and was an avid outdoorsman.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Brown "Peggy" Bethune; two sons, E. Hugh Bethune, Jr. and Corey Bethune, both of Griffin; granddaughters, Brittany Thacker of Barnesville and Summer Bethune of Griffin; sisters, Joyce Turner and Judy Bethune, also of Griffin; a brother, Freddy Bethune and wife Sherry of Thomaston; and several nieces and nephews.

No formal services will be conducted.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 3:00-4:00PM at Haisten McCullough Funeral Home.
