Cecile Bunting Lort

Cecile Bunting Lort, age 88, of Selbyville, DE passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones Saturday, November 30, 2024. She was born in Bishopville, MD and was the daughter of the late Lloyd Bunting and Margaret Savage Bunting. She was one of five children who grew up in St. Martin's Neck, graduating from Buckingham High School. She married the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Lort, eventually making a home in Selbyville where both were active in the community throughout their lives.
Cecile worked part-time as a bookkeeper for several local businesses, but her foremost priority was taking care of her family. She was a member of Salem Church in Selbyville, serving in many capacities throughout her life. She also served for many years as a member of the Selbyville Vol. Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary. She co-owned a party decorating business, Balloon Deco, after her children were grown.
She is survived by a son, Richard David Lort Jr. (Jeanette) of Townsend, DE; three daughters, Susan Lort Runk of Salisbury, MD, Sharon Lort Whittaker (Mark) of Raleigh, NC, and Sarah Lort Johnson (Forrest) of Midlothian, VA; two sisters, Mary Ann Layfield of Bishopville, MD and Brenda Stevens of Selbyville, DE; eighteen grandchildren and thirty-seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard D. Lort Sr.; a brother, Milby Bunting and a sister, Naomi Johnson.
On Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 11:30 a.m., a funeral service will be held at Bishop- Hastings Funeral Home in Selbyville. Family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in Redmen's Cemetery in Selbyville.
