Cecily Oberst Silberman was born in the Bronx, New York in 1938, to Harry and Ruth Oberst, and was the beloved older sister of Michael Oberst.
Our beautiful and extraordinary mother passed away peacefully October 27, surrounded by her loving family. We take comfort in knowing she is now in a better place, free from the Alzheimer's disease that slowly took her from us.
Cecily was truly one of a kind, strong, dynamic, and ahead of her time. A trailblazer in every sense of the word, she built an extraordinary life marked by determination, creativity, and accomplishment. She owned banks, shopping centers, and hotels, held her real estate broker's, mortgage brokers, and interior designer's licenses, and also became a pilot. Her drive and spirit inspired everyone who knew her.
She was a devoted mother to her four children, Lesley Heller, Jon Katcher, Julie Samuels, and Elisa Simon, and a loving grandmother to eight grandchildren: Paige Heller, Russell Heller, Hailey Samuels, Joseph Samuels, Alexandra Simon, Bryce Simon, Madison Katcher, and Joshua Katcher. Cecily was a cherished sister and friend, loved fiercely by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Her energy lit up every room she entered. Her laughter and zest for life made her an unforgettable presence. She was fun, fearless, and full of heart. Her absence leaves an unfillable space in our lives.
We are deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and support from friends and family during this difficult time. Cecily will be missed beyond words, but we hold tight to her memory and look for signs that she is still with us.
A memorial service for family and close friends will be held on December 23, 2025. Details will be shared at a later date. In lieu of gifts, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer's Association in her honor. https://www.alz.org
