Celia Ann Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Midlothian Funeral Home on Jul. 27, 2024.
Celia Ann Major was born October 10, 1939, at home in the small farming community of Griffith Switch in Ellis County, Texas to Shytles Madison Griffith and Hazel LaRue Hankins. She passed away on July 22, 2024, at Baylor Dallas due to complications from a fall at home. The second of four children, Ann grew up on the family farm with daily chores that included picking cotton in the summers. She attended school in Venus graduating from high school at the age of 17 in 1957. Ann married in October of the same year and became a mother the following summer with a second daughter born three years later. Ann was a stay-at–home mom until 1966 when she began her career in bookkeeping/accounting with American Finance in Oak Cliff. On December 9, 1972, she married Bill Major. She took a job in Waxahachie with W.B. Forrest, Jr., the same year and was later employed by H&H Oil which became Victron Energy from which she retired in 2018.
Ann was a woman of faith and attended church her whole life, teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School when her girls were young. She and Bill attended First Baptist, Waxahachie, prior to their moving to Midlothian in 1985. Ann also served her community filling various positions on the Mountain Peak SUD Water Board for over 35 years. Her father, Shytles, was been instrumental in starting the rural water system many years prior.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her younger brother, Carnell Griffith, and her former son-in-law, Tim Adams. She lost her husband of 48 years, Bill, in 2021. Bill always credited Ann and her girls for saving his life.
Ann is survived by her daughters, Kim and Martee, and their husbands, Keith and Jace, respectively, three grandchildren – Clay Causey of Gilmer, Zachary Adams of Dallas and Calley Causey of Rowlett, and two sisters, Shawnee Harding of Waxahachie and Shelia Cavender of Midlothian. Additionally, she is survived by numerous nieces, nephews & cousins.
Last but certainly not least, Ann is also survived by Denise Grauberger – her dear friend and caregiver who is considered family. Denise was a caregiver for Bill and both of Ann's parents. Our family has leaned on her heavily for many years.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 from 12 to 1 in the afternoon at Midlothian Funeral Home. A service will follow at 1. Burial will be at Mountain Peak Cemetery next to her beloved husband, Bill, and near her parents.
