Cerita M. Hewett, age 86, passed away Friday evening, November 7, 2025, surrounded by family. She was born on December of 1938 in Nampa, Idaho. She was the beloved daughter of the late LaVon L. Moore and William Corey Moore.
Cerita grew up surrounded by family, kind neighbors and friends. She loved life and participated in many sports and choir.
Cerita attended Brigham Young University, Summers, she worked the farms in Idaho to earn money for tuition. Upon graduating, she moved to Tooele, UT where she worked as a Speech Therapist until she was called to serve a mission in Peru for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
When she returned, she worked as a speech therapist in Provo, UT where she met her future husband. She married Roger Hewett on April 14, 1966 in the Idaho Falls temple.
They moved frequently as Roger served in the Air Force and then worked in the Boy Scouts of America. During these years, they welcomed seven children into their family. She remained active in her church and local community.
She returned to the field of education in 1988 as a second-grade teacher. She taught and touched the lives of many children. Writing books and publishing with children was one of her passions.
When she retired from teaching in 2004, she continued to write, serve, enjoy her family and to lift and encourage others. She found joy in teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ both at church and home. She and Roger served a mission in Lubbock, Texas and a few years later another mission in Guayaquil, Ecuador. When they returned, they built a cabin in Crockett, Texas where they lived until Roger passed away in 2017.
Serving to the end, Cerita served as a missionary one last time in the LDS Church Headquarters mission from 2024-2025.
Her life was dedicated to God and family with service as a primary joy. She served faithfully in the many different callings she received. Her exuberance for life and love of others touched the hearts of many. She lived until her body, given in love and service, passed as all mortals do and her spirit slipped the bonds of earth into eternity, there to await a glorious resurrection.
Cerita is survived by five daughters, Emily Vance, Lee Ann Hewett, Caroline (Kiem) Ho, Raechel (Wayne) Shelton, and Robin (Jeremy) Grisel; two sons, Edward (Alisha) Hewett and Benjamin (Heike) Hewett; 20 grandchildren, Cameron Vance, Jonah, Caleb, Sydney, Madeleine, Lenae, Collin, Hallie, Sophie, Sable, Valiant, Cannon, Emma, Elena, Isabel, Holland, Jarom, Carter, Eve, and Olivia; and 2 great-grandchildren, Miles and Josie Rae; many other family members and friends who will miss her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Roger M. Hewett; sisters Wilburta Moore and Verla Hendrickson and brothers, Wayne, Ralph, Dwight, and baby Moore; as well as two grandchildren, Cordon and Jackson.
The family viewing and prayer was held at Callaway-Allee Funeral Home on November 8, 2025.
Memorial services will be held for all who wish to join in celebrating Cerita's life on November 22, 2025, 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 615 N Macarthur Blvd. Coppell, TX 75019.
