Chad Amond Obituary

Chad M. Amond, 51, of Unity Township, formerly of Derry Township, sadly passed away on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, surrounded by his family. Chad was born on Aug. 21, 1974, in Derry, and is the loving son of Charles and Lugene Polinsky Amond of Derry. In addition to his parents, Chad is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Amy Shearer Amond; four wonderful children, Maddie Malone (Ian), Katie, Alex, and Abigail Amond; sister, Kari Manges (Steve); in-laws, Tom and Janis Shearer; brother-in-law, Jeff Shearer (Julie); nephew, Nathan Manges; nieces, Emma and Bryn Shearer; and a grandchild soon to arrive. Chad was the former president and CEO of the Westmoreland County Chamber of Commerce from 2011 to 2022. Under his leadership, the Chamber grew significantly, representing over 1000 members and was dedicated to supporting, encouraging, and advancing responsible business development. Chad's executive oversight included implementing the organization's strategic plan, identifying opportunities to increase membership value, managing day-to-day business operations, and serving as the organization's spokesperson and principal communicator. Previously, he had served as president of the Monroeville Area Chamber of Commerce. Under his guidance, the organization grew to become one of the largest and most influential business associations in Allegheny County, representing over 725 companies in Monroeville and across Pittsburgh's eastern suburbs. Prior to his service as a Chamber of Commerce executive, Chad had served as the key communications and marketing executive at Forbes Hospital in Monroeville. He had also held several senior-level positions in the field of sports marketing and management, most notably with the Philadelphia Flyers, Philadelphia 76ers, and at the Civic Area in Pittsburgh. Chad earned his BA degree in Communication from Slippery Rock University and his MBA from Seton Hill University. He had also attained certification from the Institute for Organization Management at Villanova University through the US Chamber of Commerce Foundation. Chad had been recognized professionally many times, most notably by Pittsburgh Magazine as one of Pittsburgh's "40 under 40" and by PA Business Central as one of its "Top 100." He also had received the Distinguished Alumni Leadership Award from Seton Hill University and the Economic Growth Connection Lifetime Achievement Award. Chad was also a graduate of the highly competitive Leadership Pittsburgh Program and the PA Business Council's Executive Leaders Program. He was a board member for many community organizations and advisory councils, including Westmoreland County Community College, Pennsylvania Foundation for Free Enterprise, Pennsylvania Association of Chamber Professionals, Chambers of Commerce Service Corporation, the Economic Growth Connection of Westmoreland, and Eastern Area Adult Services. In addition, Chad was a radio host of the Westmoreland Business Journal, which aired on WCNS 1480 AM, and Westmoreland Community Connection, which aired on WHJB 107.1 FM. In March of 2020, at the age of 45, Chad was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia, a rare form of dementia that deteriorates the parts of the brain that are responsible for speech and language. This disease forced him to step away from his career in 2022. For six years, Chad and his family fought this debilitating and heinous disease, which robbed him completely of his speech, affected his understanding of language, and diminished his cognitive ability. Although it is important to bring awareness to primary progressive aphasia and Chad's condition of recent years, he would want to be remembered as being wholly present in the lives of his colleagues, friends, and especially his beloved family. The Amond family would like to thank the staff of Mountain View Memory Care and Medi Home Hospice for their phenomenal care and support throughout Chad's journey. Family and friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, at LOPATICH-BRINKER FUNERAL HOME LLC, 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 331 Weldon St., Latrobe. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Interment will follow at Unity Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greater Latrobe Partners In Education Foundation at www.glpief.org or to the National Aphasia Association at www.aphasia.org. Dear Amy and family,
May I offer my most sincere sympathy to you all. I will always remember Chad´s genuine and caring smile and his gentle yet strong command of the Westmoreland Chamber. Going to meetings was like going to his home.. his brilliant way of making us so welcomed while never losing sight of his vision. I will always remember him very fondly.
My heart is with you all
