Chad Stephen Lamar, 50, of Columbia, South Carolina passed away suddenly at his home on December 10, 2024. He was born on April 2, 1974 to Sherry Lamar Katz and Robert "Bobby" Lamar. Chad is also survived by his step-mother, Carolyn Lamar; sister, Paige Lamar Knapper (Chris); brother, Todd Lamar (Rhonda), and his two best friends, Leslie Hoyt (Heather), and Tesha Blanton Newton (friends since 8th grade). He is survived by his three nephews, Tyler Moorer (Alyssa), Garrett Lamar, and Brent Lamar and by his two nieces, McKenzie Moorer Pearsall (Neely) and Hailey Lamar and one great niece, Alice.
Chad was a 911 Telecommunicator, he loved the people he worked with and they loved him. He never met a stranger, he had a quick wit, and delightful sarcasm. He knew every road and street in Richland County and lead the rescuers to their destinations. Placing the vehicles in strategic locations was a lot like playing chess it took a lot of skill and Chad was master at it.
He and his dad spent every football game night following the game and it's commentary. Laughter, cheers, and ranting could be heard throughout the phone lines. Chad was a mastermind for all things related to baseball and football, after all playing baseball was his dream career...until his accident at age 15 and he spent the rest of his life in a wheel chair. He enjoyed spending vacation time in Moncks Corner, fishing with his friend Les. Of course, Les would take catfish off the line because Chad was highly allergic to catfish. Chad also had a passion for cooking, especially grilling. He came up with original recipes, but beware... he liked his food hot and spicy!
Chad came into this world with a bang, feet first and weighing over 11 pounds! When he left the world, he left with love in his heart for us all.
Chad's celebration of life service will take place on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 2 o'clock in the afternoon at The Downtown Church, located at 2030 Gregg Street, Columbia, SC 29201.
"As you look down from heaven onto all of the fields you ever came upon, I hope you smile at the lives you have touched and the legacy you have left. May God place his hand on your shoulder and say, "Well done."

I have known Chad for a very long time. His mother was my Sunday school teacher. Chad was a fun guy and always said hi and talked to you. I can't believe this great guy is gone.

Chad and I learned how to swim together when we were like 4-5 years old. Hand fun from Mill Creek to LR. Played on the same
Little league team which he was a star at. Use to enjoy stopping by dispatch when I worked nights with Richland county and catch up with him. Good times.

Even though I left CPD a little over six years ago to continue my law enforcement career in Tampa, hearing the news if your passing touched a little different. Rest Easy Sir keep watching over all the First Responders as you did so graciously behind that radio.

Chad and I were friends for a long time and I will miss him very much. From our time fishing and hunting to watching and cheering for the Braves he was always fun to be around .

Never forget playing football with Chad at Mill Creek Elementary when we were probably 15. Chad ran down someone (maybe Lance Pratt) and tackled them by pulling down their pants. We laughed and laughed.

Chad was a good man. I appreciated that he never turned bitter after his accident led to his wheelchair. He always persevered.

I first met Chad in elementary school. He was a year behind me but we had a lot of the same friends.
