It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Chad R. Tanner, affectionately known by many as Mupp in his early years, and later as Chit amongst his friends. Chad was born on June 2, 1959, in Salt Lake City, UT, and passed away peacefully on March 31, 2024. He was a beacon of joy, a pillar of strength, and a source of inspiration for all who knew him.
Chad was an embodiment of thoughtfulness, a man whose generosity of spirit was only surpassed by his lively humor and his unwavering support for those he cared about. A true outdoorsman, Chad found solace in the embrace of nature, whether it was hunting, fishing, or simply basking in the sun, working on his ever-enviable tan. He also held a deep passion for collecting sports memorabilia, a testament to his love for the games. Chad had a way of making every moment count, a trait best encapsulated by the quote, "The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well."
Chad was a gifted painter, renowned for his meticulous craftsmanship and exceptional work ethic. Alongside his brother Randy, he built a reputable name in the painting industry, leaving a mark of perfection on every project they handled. His talent went beyond the strokes of his painting brush; it was reflected in the beautiful life he painted for his family and friends. Chad's love for people's happiness was palpable, and he strived to create a world of joy around him.
Chad is survived by his loving spouse, Nancy Tanner, his children, Tyler Tanner (Candice), Tara Ward (Adam), Cody Butterfield, Erica Butterfield, and his cherished grandchildren, Gauge Tanner, Halle Tanner, Brylee Ward, and Lane Ward. He also leaves behind his brother, Randy Tanner (Callie). Chad was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Norma Tanner, his sister, Ingre Stilson, and his beloved granddaughter, Karley Tanner.
Chad's legacy is one of love, laughter, and dedication. His memory will continue to inspire us and remind us of the beautiful life he lived. As we mourn his passing, let us also celebrate the remarkable life he led. We encourage all who knew Chad to share their memories and upload photos to his memorial page. These shared moments will serve as a tribute to Chad's unforgettable spirit and enduring impact on our lives.
The service will be held Friday April 19, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Cottonwood Memorial located at 4670 South Highland Drive, Holladay, Utah 84117

It is with a heavy heart that I extend my deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to you and your families during this incredibly difficult time. Kev and I feel so bad about missing Chads service we were out of town.
We have known the Tanners pretty much our whole lives. Our parents were family friends. It was the Tanners, Orvins, Wells, Keller´s, and the Lucas. I remember the Fourth of July parades of course we were in the Parade remember that Randy? LOL Lots of BB-Qs in the canyon and I´ll never forget our fun times when everyone went to wendover. My mom (Rene Orvin) would charter a bus and off we went drinking all the way. Our families were not just friends We considered them as family. Please accept our sincerest condolences. Chad will be missed, but his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
With Love and sympathy

Chad was inspirational and loved. Kelly and I named our son Tanner because of the bond and love Kelly and Chad shared. They are together again. Sending prayers and love to all that knew and loved him.

We are so very sorry Nancy. Chad was like another son to us when he was growing up. Kelly and Chad were very close cousin friends all their life, so I will put young pics of them together. Chad always said I made the best tuna sandwiches, I'm sure he was just being kind. You are in our prayers
