Chandis Ferguson

Chandis Ferguson, 85, of Ashland, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

He was born on May 7, 1940, in Morgan County, Kentucky, to the late John William Ferguson and Pauline Cox Ferguson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Ferguson, and his sister, Virginia Cyrus.

A proud graduate of Catlettsburg High School, Chandis dedicated many years of service to Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 248 before retiring. A hardworking man by nature, he found great joy in staying active, whether managing his rental properties or spending time on his tractor. When he was no longer able to work, he began walking miles each day, often wearing out a pair of shoes. Whatever he did, he did to the fullest, always striving for perfection. Known for his integrity and strong Christian values, Chandis believed deeply in the importance of honesty and keeping one's word.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his family above all else. Chandis especially enjoyed watching his children play sports where he was their biggest cheerleader, collecting cars, and keeping busy. He was a fearless leader within his family and lived life with a bold and adventurous spirit.

Chandis is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, the love of his life and his best friend, Joy Brown Ferguson of Ashland; his son, Chandis "Chan" Ferguson and his wife, Larra, of Russell; his daughter, Susan Ferguson and her husband, Clint Wellman, of Ashland; his sisters, Lucille Hardeman of Catlettsburg, Christine Blanton of Rush, and Beverly Ritchey of Ashland; his brother, John R. "J.R." Ferguson of Grayson; and his cherished grandchildren, Maci Ferguson, Skylar Ferguson, Mia Ferguson, and Savana Ferguson. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel with Pastor Jason Plummer and Pastor Ken Gowin officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
