Chansouk Siriphokha, 79, of Columbus, Ohio passed peacefully into the next life on April 25, 2024 after a short battle with Leukemia. He was surrounded by his loving family, including his wife, Daroune, of 51 years.
Born in Muang Khong Laos, Chansouk graduated from medical school in Vientiane Laos in 1968. He served two years as a surgery trainee at Rajavithi Hospital and Lerdsin Hospital in Bangkok under the United States Operations Mission to Thailand. In 1972, he served as chief of medicine in Salavan Laos. He then returned to Pakse Laos to practice medicine until 1980. His service included humanitarian work along side Filipino doctors under the Operation Brotherhood campaign in Paksong, Laos and missions to Cambodia after the genocide of the late 1970's.
In 1980, he fled the communist regime in Laos with his wife and two young children. After a short time in a Thai refugee camp, the family spent 6 months at the Philippine Refugee Processing Center in Bataan, Philippines before immigrating to the United States. In 1981, he settled in Columbus where he lived until his passing. In 1993, he proudly became a naturalized United States citizen.
In Columbus, Chansouk worked as an STNA for 25 years until his retirement in 2006. In his retirement, he enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Daroune, daughter Sue, son Chanpathana, and brother Chansmone Syriphokha. He's preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and one brother.
