Chap “Joe” Gibson Austin Jr. passed away peacefully on June 18th, 2024, at the age of 63, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 19th, 1961, Chap lived a life full of music, dance, and love.

Chap was preceded in death by his daughter Mary Freeman and his parents, Chap Gibson Austin Sr. and Mary “Peaches” Austin.

Chap is survived by his two daughters, Kristina Reid and her husband Keven Reid, and Alexis Austin and her husband Shawn Copeland. His siblings include his two sisters, Mae Austin Ellison with husband Brian Ellison. Margaret Austin Harvey with husband Tony Harvey, and his brother Mark Austin. His aunt, Elizabeth Craven. He was a cherished grandfather to five grandchildren and a beloved uncle to four nieces and three nephews.

Chap’s constant companions were his two dogs, Axle and Charlie, whom he adored and loved like family.

Chap will always be remembered for his immense love of music, especially classic rock, which he played loudly whenever family visited. In his younger years, he was known for his passion for dancing, a memory that brings smiles to those who knew him. He also loved cooking and was known to cook extra just in case someone stopped by.

There will be no funeral service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. His family invites all who knew him to come and share in the memories of a life well-lived.
