Charlene Delyea Obituary

Charlene Delyea, 87

Charlene Kay Delyea, beloved daughter, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2023, at the age of 87. Born on July 13, 1936, in Saint Maries, ID, Charlene was the cherished daughter of Charles and Doris Remley, the oldest of six children.

In her youth, Charlene pursued her education and successfully graduated from Harrison High School in 1954. She excelled both academically and athletically, with her passion for basketball shining through. Charlene's love for the sport led her to actively participate in various school activities, serving as the girls' sports editor, class president, and even engaging in annual staff and theatrical performances.

After her school years, Charlene ventured into the world and found herself working in the hospitality industry. From Hope, Idaho to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, she managed and worked in several bars, leaving a lasting impression on the people she met. During this time, she met and married George L. Dye on August 26, 1955 in Coeur d' Alene, ID; from this union the couple had three daughters. The couple later divorced. Charlene then transitioned into different fields of employment, including positions at Ponsness-Warren and Keystone Lighting. Charlene met and married Spencer J. Delyea on October 22, 1968 in Bonner Ferry, ID, the couple later divorcing.

However, it was in the public-school sector where Charlene truly made her mark. She dedicated her career to serving others through food service, working diligently at Campbell County School District until her retirement in 2010. Her contributions to the school community were widely recognized, and her warm smile and caring nature will be forever remembered by those whose lives she touched.

Beyond her professional achievements, Charlene had a gift for making cherished and lasting connections with the people around her. Known fondly as "Charlie" to her friends, she thoroughly enjoyed socializing and could often be found having a great time while playing on the pool and dart leagues. Her involvement in various organizations, including the Hayden Lake Eagles, American Legion Post 42, and Moose Lodge Gillette, allowed her to build lifelong friendships.

Charlene will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her children, Lynda Bowers of Gillette, WY; Cindy Hurm of Gillette, WY; and Tena Osborne of Northfork, CA; who she held close to her heart. Her grandkids John Reed, Charity Spangler, and great-grandkids Jonathon Reed and Justice Reed; great-great-grandkids, Lyllian Reed and Russell Reed. Along with siblings, Bill Remley, Sharon Butterfield, and Kathy (Dave) McDaniel and sister-in-law, Alice Remley; and four nieces, four nephews and 12 great-nieces and nephews. Her legacy of love, kindness, and joyful spirit will forever resonate with those who were fortunate enough to have known her. Charlene is preceded in death by her sister, Bonnie Watters and brother, Dick Remley.

The funeral services and ceremonies to bid farewell and celebrate Charlene's remarkable life will be held at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, Charlene would tell you to spend the memorial on your family.
