Charlene Smith (Dean) was born May 2, 1957, in Bridgeville, PA. She was one of six children to David "Brent" Jr. and Maggie Dean-Alston. Charlene completed her education in Bridgeville and graduated from Chartiers Valley High School in 1975.
After graduation, she married Eugene V. Carson, Sr. and gave birth to her only son Eugene "Geno" V. Carson, Jr. She was employed for many years at Western Union and later had a career at Allegheny Ludlum Steel Mill where she received many awards and acknowledgments.
She then met and married the love of her life, Jack Smith from Pittsburgh, PA. Charlene was a very devoted wife and mother. Her family joined as members at the Second Baptist Church of Carnegie. Charlene graduated from the Harty Bible School, Pittsburgh, PA. Charlene loved children, music, fashion and traveling. Her passion was to assist Pastor E. La Rue Davis and the church in many ways utilizing her talents, clerical skills, outreach, cooking and serving in the church dining hall. Charlene oversaw the church kitchen for many years.
She had a way of making everyone who knew her feel so special, treating them like extended family. Her warm way of inviting people to her home for a dinner party to enjoy her culinary creations, or perhaps time shared at a restaurant will never be forgotten. She was so generous that many will remember receiving an unexpected gift. Most conversations and expression of love usually ended with her saying "she loved you more".
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents David "Brent" and Maggie Dean, sisters Debra Dean-Bey, Tanya Dean, uncle William Alston, aunts Viola Alston-Partee, and Lydia Alston-Dean and great nephew Delvin Johnson, Jr.
Leaving to cherish her memory is her beloved husband Jack Smith, son Eugene "Geno" Carson, sons in-law Jack Smith Jr. and Jerome J. Smith, sisters Brenda Adams-Dean, Angela (Bill) Drewery, brother David Dean, III, sister in-law Arsene E. Smith-Franklin, aunt Gloria Singleton-Dean, uncle Alexander Alston, Jr., nieces Kisha Adams, Fayla Drewery, nephews Jamil S.
