Charles Andrews Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rowland-Ford Funeral Home on Dec. 12, 2025.
Augusta, GA…….Mr. Charles "Charlie" F. Andrews, 83, husband of the late Dianne Louise Andrews, peacefully entered into rest on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at Piedmont Hospital, Augusta, GA.
His memorial service will be held on January 3rd, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Grace Baptist Church of Evans with Pastor Bill Hilley officiating.
Born August 31, 1942 in Dublin, Georgia to Cortez Frank Andrews and Emma Leigh Andrews, Charles embraced the media world–especially radio–from his earliest days at the Academy of Richmond County High School (grad. 1960) and later at Augusta College.

Charlie was an audio-visual pioneer from a young age and loved all things related to radio and communications. After his marriage to Dianne Norris in 1962, they moved first to Memphis and then to Charlotte while Charlie learned and honed his sound engineering profession. A career highlight, and a story Charles loved to tell, was engineering James Brown's "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" session.
By the end of that decade they returned to Augusta where he helped sign on WAGT-TV Channel 26. Charles's return to radio made him a high profile figure in Augusta and he eventually became General Manager of WAUG AM/FM and later, Operations Manager and co-owner of WZZW-FM.
He moved on from radio and had a successful marketing/advertising career with Jones Intercable/Comcast and later Mass Media Marketing in advertising sales. Charlie's marketing abilities along with his audio-visual talent allowed him to make great strides in AV technology, in many cases before they became part of the mainstream. He was responsible for the production of countless promotional videos for many prominent local businesses as well as the official videographer for Augusta Ballet, Storyland Theatre and many others. He was well known for the founding of his own commercial production company, VideOccasions, with an events recording component that filmed many hundreds of local weddings, dance recitals and special events. Legions of industry colleagues report his many favors and contributions over the years while refusing compensation.

Those that knew Charlie well agree that his wife Dianne's 2003 passing was a life-changing tragedy for him and he was unable to recover from the grief that her passing caused for him. In addition to his wife, Dianne L. Andrews, he was also preceded in death by his son, Brian K. Andrews.

He is survived by his daughter, Lynn Judson (Jonathan); his grandchildren, Nathan, Jacob, and Sophie Judson, Stephen Andrews and James Cieply; his older brother Frank E. "Gene" Andrews (Chi Chi); and his niece and nephew, Kim Andrews and John Andrews.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation in Charlie's name to a local addiction recovery center (Hale Foundation, Hope House or Immanuel House).

I am so saddened to learn of Charlie's passing. I worked with him through many of the local arts groups including the original Augusta Ballet, Augusta Players, etc. He was very talented and focused on always doing the best job. I had the pleasure to also know Dianne, his daughter Lynn from dance classes, and Brian who followed in his father's footsteps. The entire family was talented. Charlie was also a long-time friend and colleague of my father, George Fisher. They worked together in many areas of radio and TV. Both of my parents thought the world of Charlie. My sincere condolences to Lynn and the family. Charlie was a special soul on this planet.

We are so sorry for your loss. We moved from Augusta seven years ago but remember Charlie fondly as a friend and client. You will be in our thoughts and prayers during this time.
