Charles Austin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carpenter's Funeral Home - Corning on Feb. 23, 2026.
Charles (Chuck) Arnold Austin was born October 3, 1941 in Urbana, NY to Harold and Evelyn Benjamin-Austin, he passed away peacefully in Corning, NY on February 21, 2026 at the age of 84.

He is survived by his son: Jeffrey Austin; daughters: Lisa (Gary) Wertz , Mallorey (Richard) Stankiewicz; step-mother: Ellie Austin; brothers: John, Tom and Keith Austin; sister: Cherly Moon; grandchildren: Elijah, Skylar, Evelyn and Lorretta; great-grandchildren: Everett and James; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, including cousin Paula Stark whose help in the last few weeks has not gone unnoticed.

While attending Campbell school, Chuck worked his family farm beginning at 16 years old and worked 62 years until he retired at the age of 78. He spent his career as a heavy equipment operator and jack of all trades. He worked for Knight Settlement, RC Billings, Austin Construction and for his long-time friend George Wood. One of his favorite parts of the job was a morning coffee with his friend "Gut" Brundage.

In his free time, Charlie enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, riding his motorcycle, watching NASCAR races and cheering on #3 Dale Earnhardt, cross country road trips with his daughter Lisa, watching dirt track racing with son Jeff and friends. Charles also became a Papa to 12 exchange kids from across the world. In his later years he lived with daughter Mallorey where they shared many happy moments and laughs. When he spoke of the past, he often talked of winning the fishing derby with son Steve on Keuka lake and spending the holidays at Grandma Benjamin's.

He is predeceased by his wife Peggy (Gauss) Austin, his son Stephen Austin, sisters Marlene and Sylvia; and his feline best friend, Marty Meatball, who enjoyed sharing a daily bagel with cream cheese.

Family and friends are invited to call at Carpenter's Funeral Home, 14 E. Pulteney Street, Corning, NY on Saturday, February 28, 2026 from 3:00pm-5:00pm.
