Charles N. Bacon IV, 73, leapt from this reality to the next on Oct. 8, 2022 while walking in the Maine woods. Charlie was the beloved husband of Ann M. Bacon with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage.
Born January 11, 1949 in Waterville, ME, Charlie grew up in Asbury Park, NJ and met Ann in 1968 at the University of Delaware. Charlie graduated in 1970 and was a proud Blue Hen. After graduating, Charlie and Ann settled in the Washington DC area where he worked for the Department of the Treasury - first for the ATF and later for the TTB. Charlie's specialty was Beer - he was the Program Manager for the Beer Division at the ATF/TTB and spent his 35+ year career writing brewing regulations and helping brewers with their regulatory needs.
Charlie was a member of Church in the Cove, the Beverly Cove Improvement Association, and several clubs around his hobbies. Charlie was an avid collector of rusty quart beer cans and Breweriana - he was known among other collectors for being an "epic dumper." Charlie was amazingly gentle, kind and loving - he adored his family and friends and was active in his community. Charlie would want those who knew him to love unconditionally, walk gently upon the earth, take care of others, hug trees, and drink lots of coffee.
In addition to Ann, Charlie is survived by daughter, Jessica Bacon, (Portsmouth, NH); grandson, Emery Bacon, (Riverdale Park, MD); sister, Sarah Lawrence (Sequim, WA); brother, Lee Rickwood (Toronto, ON); and cousin, Wendy Schierer, (West Chester, PA). He was predeceased by his son Bradford C. Bacon (41) in 2011.
Services for Charles will be held Saturday, November 12 at 11 am at the Church in the Cove, 167 Hale St, Beverly, MA. In lieu of flowers donation in his name can be made to Doctors Without Borders, www.onetreeplanted.org and Church in the Cove.

Heard thru the grapevine/malt bev. world of Charlie“s recent passing. A long time friend, govt. colleague, beer educator, writer, keg tapper, can swapper, breweriana guy, quart can expert, dumper, micro brewer advisor, beer sampler, P. Ballantine, NJ, and all around easy going guy! Very smart dude, rooted for the underdog, great family man, loved the outdoors. Fitting that he was back in ME woods looking for ano rare rusty can! Condolences to Ann, Jessica and Grandson. Remembering Brad too! Edward A Reisman, Camp Springs, MD
