Charles Albert Barrett, 77, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 5, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on October 30, 1947, to Albert and Virginia Barrett, Charles was a lifelong resident of Louisville and a cherished member of the community.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, Charles was known for his warm heart, quick wit, and unforgettable stories. With a natural gift of gab, he never met a stranger—always ready with a smile, a laugh, or a tale from his treasure trove of memories.
Charles dedicated over 30 years of his professional life as a technical writer at Vermont-American, where his attention to detail and clarity of expression made a lasting impact.
Beyond his career, Charles had a rich and full life. He had a deep affection for dogs and shared his home—and his heart—with many over the years. A lifelong car enthusiast, he had an eye for vintage automobiles and a passion for the stories they carried.
His hobbies reflected his fun and easygoing nature. He enjoyed casual trips to Walmart, where he’d often strike up conversations with strangers who quickly became friends. His love for 60s and 70s music filled his days, and he was a devoted fan of classic television—especially Star Trek and I Love Lucy. Holidays held a special place in Charles's heart, particularly Thanksgiving and Christmas, when he was happiest surrounded by the people he loved most.
Charles leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and unforgettable memories. He will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
Rest in peace, Charles—you will always be loved and never forgotten.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Albert Charles Barrett and Virginia Buehner Barrett; and 2 brothers, Michael Barrett and Ronnie Barrett.
Left to cherish his memory, Charles is survived his loving wife of 53+ years, Lynda Barrett; 4 children, Tammi Trotter (Roy), Timothy Barrett, Traci Crow (Scott), and Tyler Barrett (Biz); 5 grandchildren, Taylor Davis, Ethan Davis (Heather), Arya Crow, Charlee Barrett, and Jonathan Barrett; great-grandson, Grayson Davis; sister, Beverly Guenther (Donald); and a host of extended family and close friends.
A funeral service for Mr. Charles Barrett will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Louisville Memorial Gardens West Funeral Home, 4400 Dixie Highway, Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will be held from 10 AM to 2 PM at the funeral home, prior to the service. Entombment at Louisville Memorial Gardens West will follow the funeral service.
