Charles Basil Obituary Charles M. 'Mike' Basil, age 70 of Salem, Indiana died peacefully in the early morning hours of December 7, 2023 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital surrounded by his wife and family.
He was born December 3, 1953, in Glasgow, Kentucky to Carroll W. Basil and Maxine Ann Basil. On August 30, 2003, Mike married Carol Wilson, who survives.
Mike was a graduate of Clarksville High School. He retired from Indiana Southern Railroad. He was a lover of all sports. From his years participating in high school sports, to watching his favorite teams play, to coaching local high school sports. He was an official IHSAA referee for 5 sports. Mike enjoyed time on the farm with his wife taking care of their animals and raising beef cattle. He occasionally enjoyed a cigar and glass of bourbon.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Wilson; his 3 children, Allison O'Grady (Tom), of Louisville, Kentucky, Kim Powell (Ben), of Knoxville, Tennessee and Laura Basham (Christopher), of Otisco, Indiana; sister, Janice Basil, two brothers, Robert Basil and Tommy Basil, all of Clarksville, Indiana; 9 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jeff Basil.
Visitation will be December 10, 2023, from 1 to 4 pm Sunday at Dawalt Funeral Home, followed by a Celebration of Life at 4 pm.
