Charles Beasterfeld Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home on Aug. 2, 2025.
Charles Duane Beasterfeld went to be with Jesus on Sunday morning, July 27, 2025, while at Midland Hospice House, after spending several years with Parkinson's Disease. Charles was born on July 22, 1938, in Belvue, Kansas, to George W. and Lydia L. (Steege) Beasterfeld. He attended rural schools in Jackson and Wabaunsee Counties in Kansas, and graduated from St. John's Lutheran School in Alma, Kansas. He then attended all four years at Eskridge Rural High School where he graduated in May 1958. Charles enlisted in the United States Air Force on October 7, 1958, and served over three years in Laon, France. His active duty ended on April 2, 1962, with an honorable discharge. Upon discharge from the Air Force, Charles moved to Wamego, Kansas and renewed a relationship with Mary Bush. They were married on July 9, 1962, at her parent's home in Eskridge, Kansas. They were blessed with three sons, Dale, Paul, and Mark. Charles and Mary moved from Wamego to Rock Island, Illinois shortly after being married and later moved to Coal Valley, Illinois. He worked at the Eagle Food Center Warehouse in Milan, Illinois until the end of 1966. He then worked at International Harvester Farmall Works until they had a layoff in 1968. At that time, they moved back to Topeka, Kansas, where he began work at the Goodyear Tire Plant until he retired just short of 31 years due to health issues. While working at Goodyear, they moved from Topeka to a rural area east of Eskridge. In his later years, a decision was made to move back to Topeka. Charles was a member of South Knollwood Baptist Church in Topeka, where he served as door greeter for many years. He had a habit of reading a chapter of Proverbs daily in addition to his regular Bible reading. He enjoyed playing games on his phone, reading books, and listening to Southern Gospel music, especially the Greater Vision singing group. After his retirement, he enjoyed raising goats and loved watching the playful antics of the kid goats. He also enjoyed gardening, especially flower gardening and continued this even when he lived in their Topeka apartment. Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Mary; sons, Dale (Chris) Beasterfeld, of Eudora, Kansas, Paul Beasterfeld West, of Mesa, Arizona, and Mark Beasterfeld, of Topeka; three grandsons; four granddaughters; three great-grandsons; and two great-granddaughters. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, four sisters, and daughter-in-law, Cindy Beasterfeld. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. with funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 9, 2025, at South Knollwood Baptist Church, 1813 SW 29th Street, Topeka KS 66611. Burial will be at 1:15 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Admire, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to South Knollwood Baptist Church, in care of Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614.
