Funeral has been rescheduled for Thursday, December 14, 2023 at 1 p.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Rushford.
Charles Edward Brand, age 89, left this Earth on December 3, 2023, to enter his Heavenly home. He was surrounded by his loved ones in the comfort of his home. Charles was born on November 23, 1934, to Edward and Mabel Brand in Hart, MN. He was the fifth of ten children.
Music was a passion for Charles starting at an early age. Who knew that his musical career would begin at age 10 when he would play at meetings at the Rushford Elevator with his cousin, Bud, to later playing on stage alongside some of Nashville's finest. Charles played in local bands including the Root River Ramblers and later for the Mellotones. He had the thrill of playing in the opening act for many artists including Marty Robbins, Reba McEntire, Marie Osmond, Mel Tillis, and Faron Young, just to name a few. Charles was a hard worker, rarely missing a day in his nearly 47-year career at Watkins in Winona, MN. His strong work ethic and sense of responsibility has been instilled in his entire family. When he moved into the retirement phase of life, he continued his passion for music by handcrafting guitars. He took great pride in every detail of his workmanship. If you are an owner of one of his homemade guitars, please think a good thought of Charles as you strum it.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, JoAnn (Nelson), who cared for him so lovingly. Four children: Cyndi (Randy) Luhmann, Sue Brand, Kris (Craig) Dittman, and Tim Brand (Christi). Eleven grandchildren: Melissa, Brandon, Danielle, Ryan, Alicia, Parker, Logan, Keegan, Will, Ben, and Mya. Twelve great-grandchildren: Evan, Emmersyn, Harrison, Finnigan, Louis, Paitin, Scarlet, Weston, Max, Archie, Elliot, and Addie. And brothers John and Larry. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Marcie, Grace, Vivian, Donna, Julie, Vern, and Roger.
The family wishes to extend thanks to Winona Health Hospice for their care to allow him to stay home for his journey. Memorials may be directed to St. Mark's Church.
We could always rely on him to be our guide in life, as well as our provider. "It's good to touch the green, green grass of home."
