Charles (Bud) Hodge passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025 with his son, Bill, by his side. Bud was born to Elsie and Joseph Hodge on May 24, 1937 in Hibbing, Minnesota.
He was united in marriage to Mary DeJarlais on June 29, 1957 and they enjoyed nearly 67 years of memories together. Bud was a loving husband to Mary, father to Bill and Joey, Grandpa to Blair, Kelly and Meghan, and Papa to Addison, Connor, and Lena. Bud and Mary spent many summers at their cabin on Buck Lake, enjoying 11:00 a.m. Beer Break and all the memories they made hosting family and friends up there. Even after they stopped staying up there during the summers, he could often be found up there working on one of his many projects.
Bud was a very handy man. Many homes throughout the Iron Range have proof of his handiwork with all the tile he installed over many decades with both sons, Bill and Joey. He also loved woodworking, ensuring all family members had their very own set of wooden tulips for their homes. As he became a grandpa, he toasted the best marshmallows for s’mores and cleaned all the fish they caught for great late night fish fries.
In later years, Bud’s dedication to Mary was extraordinary, never leaving her side and always concerned for her. When Mary’s health started limiting her around the house, he started taking over helping with cleaning and laundry. He often helped her with her Christmas baking and always had the softest hands from all the dishes he washed for her. The family could also depend on his very famous peanut butter cookies.
Bud will be lovingly remembered by his son, William ‘Bill’ (Peggy) Hodge, Hibbing, MN; his “girls”, Blair (Nate Samarzja) Hodge, Barnesville, MN, Kelly (Bob) Polcher of Fargo, North Dakota, and Meghan (Dillon) Tomassini, Hibbing, MN; his great-grandchildren, Addison, Connor, and Lena; and many close family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Lisa (Graveline) Hodge; siblings Joyce, Dick, Bill, Florence and other close family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 20, 2025 at Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that donations be made to the Buck Lake Improvement Club in memory of Bud.
