With deep love and heartfelt sorrow, we announce the passing of Charles "Charlie" Archie Cashion, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who departed this life on Friday, April 25, 2025, following a brief illness.
Born on December 1, 1940, in Bellevue, Pennsylvania, Charlie was the son of Charles Archer Cashion and Pearl (Hastings) Cashion. He grew up with a strong sense of purpose and a dedication to learning that would define his life. Charlie attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and distinguished himself as a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, an active leader in the Young Republicans and a determined student who worked his way through college. It was at Miami University that he met his first wife, Lynn Fischer, whom he married in 1965. Charlie served his country with honor in the United States Army, receiving his discharge in December 1969. Charlie eventually settled in Medina, Ohio with his three children: Jodi, Josh and Hannah.
In the late 1970s, while working at Hewlett-Packard, Charlie met Joyce Garman-the love of his life. The two later married and built a joyful life together with Jodi, Josh and Hannah, Sloan and Max. The family shared countless adventures filled with laughter, love, and playful shenanigans, creating cherished memories that live on in each of them.
Charlie's career at Hewlett-Packard provided the opportunity to enter a new field and he embarked on a career in geographic information systems (GIS) and global positioning systems (GPS) technology-a field that would become his professional calling. Charlie's career path took the family across the country and around the world-from Medina to Denver, and then to Muscat, Oman, where he played a key role in the international advancement of GPS technology for municipal use. Charlie took part in multiple archeological expeditions, using GPS technology and surveying equipment to assist in locating sites for excavation; his work in surveying was featured in National Geographic magazine.
Charlie was a man of boundless curiosity and passion. He was a voracious reader and an enthusiastic researcher, drawn to subjects ranging from genealogy and herbal supplements to penny stocks, cryptocurrency, and politics. Charlie was a faithful member of the local Russian Orthodox Church and participated in the choir. A true original, he rooted faithfully for both the Cleveland Browns and the Pittsburgh Steelers, never wavering in his loyalty to either.
Charlie is survived by his cherished wife, Joyce; his children Jodi Rain (Eddie), Josh Cashion, Hannah Boudreau, and Sloan Cashion (Brooke); and his treasured grandchildren Meagan, Ellen, Conner, Grace, Alayna, Lukas, Lily, and Mollie. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Jenny (Jim), sisters Karen, Sharin, and Sandy. He is reunited in peace with his beloved son Max, his brothers Jim and Tom, and his parents, Charles and Pearl.
Charlie lived a full and fascinating life, guided by service, innovation, and a fierce love for his family. He will be remembered for his intellectual curiosity, generous heart, and enduring legacy. His memory will live on in the countless lives he touched.
A celebration of Charlie's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his honor to a veterans' organization or an educational charity of your choice.
