Charles Thomas Chalk passed away on May 14, 2022 after a brief hospitalization.
He was born on April 13, 1932 to Charlie and Telia Chalk and grew up on the family farm outside Youngsville, NC with his
sister Mildred and brothers Douglas and Everette. The farm found a way to stay with him throughout his life as he always had a garden and took great pride in the products that came from it. In his mind, nothing was better than a ripe tomato sandwich from his garden.
In November of 1959, he married Barbara Davis and later, in 1960, moved to Garner, NC and started a
family. Tom and Barbara had three children, Tony, David and Lisa and lived in the same house in the Cloverdale subdivision for over 50 years. They were faithful members of Highland Baptist Church. The number of great friends they made living, working and attending church in Garner are too numerous to list, but raising a family surrounded by friends was a wonderful blessing.
He could repair most any type of equipment and this skill was utilized in his work. He retired from WB
Porter and Company and then repaired lawnmowers with his neighbor Wayne Fryar. There was always a
good story being told as the work was being done when you came around their repair shop.
Tom had a lifelong love of fishing. He and his neighbors Kenneth Black and Lemuel Dixon spent many
days fishing in the ponds and lakes nearby. He never lost his love of fishing and talked about wanting to
get out on the water even when mobility issues prevented him from doing so. Tom was a wonderful grandpa. He loved visits from his grandchildren and initiated many FaceTime conversations! He was a proud grandparent who took joy in celebrating all of their milestones and accomplishments.
Perhaps the most memorable trait he had was his joy of telling corny jokes. He always had one ready to
tell whether you were a lifelong friend or a total stranger. At the end of the joke, he would be the one
laughing the hardest.
He is survived by his son Tony Chalk (Amy) and their children Ellen (Parker) and Emily and daughter Lisa
Coln and her children Cale (Alyssa), Erica (Michael) and Christy along with two greatgrandchildren Corey
and Ella. He is also survived by his bothers Douglas and Everette and their spouses. He was
predeceased by his wife, Barbara and son, David.

So sorry to learn about Tom passing away. He was a person that enjoyed his family and telling jokes . He had a great smile and shared it with everyone. I was blessed to have been around him and enjoyed his positive outlook on life.My condolences to all his family. I know he is greatly missed.

My thoughts and prayers to all the family. He loved all his family and spoke of them when we talked. I enjoyed his positive outlook on life and his great smile. He shared it with everyone he met. Our lives are better because he was in it. God Bless him and sure he is fishing in Heaven and telling jokes.
