Charles R. Codey, 84, entered into heaven on August 29, 2024. Charles "Chuck" Codey was born February 20, 1940 in Stonewall, Kentucky. He was the youngest of the three children born to the late Charles F. & Anna Codey. Charles Codey attended school in Covington, KY, until the family moved to Monrovia, CA when he was 15. Chuck attended Monrovia High School, where he was heavily inspired by sports, his love for cars and he was always one to get on that dancefloor anytime he could.
Chuck Codey worked for his parent's painting and drapery business, until venturing out on his own in the concrete industry.
At 21 years of age, he traveled with his mother to visit his grandparents, Rufus & Lilly Mae Wood, in Sadieville, KY. That is where he first laid eyes on his redheaded love, Doris Faye Marshall in front of Cushman's store. The bet from Rufus Wood, Chuck's grandfather, was that "he wouldn't be able to get a date with her." As you know, Chuck won that bet!
Upon returning home, months of long distance calls and hundreds of letters the story-book romance culminated in Doris flying to Monrovia, CA to marry Charles R. Codey in the spring of 1961.
Chuck continued his concrete aspirations and eventually started Codey's Concrete Construction. Chuck worked in the concrete trades for 51 years & was a true icon in the industry. Chuck Codey retired after 51 years in the concrete business at the age of 71.
Chuck was a true testament to what every man aspires to be. He loved with his entire being, his wife Doris, his children, his family and friends his love and friendship was a gift to every life he ever touched. He approached life with strength, determination, fierce love and devotion for those he cared for, a warm caring spirit to those around him and always a mischievous grin and a sparkle in his eye.
Chuck & Doris Codey have three children; Curtis Codey, Stephanie Codey-Freed & Maryanna Codey-Hill. Doris & Chuck resided in California from 1961 through May 2022, when they returned to their roots in Georgetown, KY.
Charles R. Codey is survived by his loving wife of 63+ years, Doris Codey and their children Curtis Codey, Stephanie Freed & Maryanna Hill. Charles is also survived by six grandchildren & eight great-grandchildren, one of which is his namesake "Charles Codey."
May Chuck's legacy and memory live on in our hearts and minds as the true Inspiration of a man, husband, father and friend that he was to each of us.
A memorial service for Chuck and Doris will be 11:30 AM Saturday, October 12, 2024 at Johnson's Funeral Home, conducted by Pastor Harry Hargis. Burial will follow at Sadieville Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:30 AM til service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or The Parkinson's Foundation.
