Doris Faye Codey, 79, entered heaven on September 3, 2024. She was met by Chuck, her loving husband of 63 years, entering heaven just 5 days before on August 29, 2024.
Doris was born in Sadieville, KY August 18, 1945. She was the youngest of four children born to the late Roy Austin Marshall & Mary "Viola" Marshall. Doris attended Sadieville School until she met and married Charles R. Codey. "Chuck" was visiting his grandparents in Sadieville when Doris & Chuck first met in front of Cushman's store. The storybook romance continued with long distance calls and more love letters than we can count, but it wasn't very long before she flew to California to marry the love of her life in spring of 1961.
Doris & Chuck Codey have three children, Curtis Codey, Stephanie Codey-Freed & Maryanna Codey-Hill. Doris & Chuck Codey resided in California from 1961 through May 2022, when they returned to their roots in Georgetown, KY.
While raising three children in CA, Doris was a contestant on the "Price Is Right" in 1977, winning the Showcase Showdown. That is where her passion for Africa really took hold, her first African Safari was part of her showcase winnings. After that first safari, she was determined to get back to Africa, not just once but many, many more times. Doris went on to college to learn all she could about the travel industry. Taking the knowledge and passion to become a very specialized travel agent, eventually starting her own travel business and taking groups on personalized tours to many countries in Africa as well as numerous other destinations around the world. Doris found a way to turn her dreams into reality with the love and support of her husband and family. Her Motto was "Dream Big and Make it Happen Baby" and she sure did. Doris was blessed to have been to Africa over 50 times throughout her life, and to have Chuck by her side on many of those trips.
Doris & Chuck also imported artifacts from all over Africa & essentially turned their home into an "African Museum." This passion was passed onto their children and even a grandchild, with Africa rooms in each of their respective homes.
Doris Codey is survived by her children Curtis Codey, Stephanie Freed & Maryanna Hill, along with six grandchildren & eight great-grandchildren.
Doris passing just five days after Chuck, is a testament to their absolute love for one another! A wonderful young lady said so perfectly "There is No Chuck without Doris and there is No Doris without Chuck" Truer words have never been spoken.
