Charles P. Coombs 93, of Owensboro, Kentucky passed away Sunday, December 1, 2024 at the Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson. Charles Phillip Coombs was born September 13, 1931 in Daviess County, Kentucky to the late Edwin Floyd and Beulah Rogers Coombs and was married to the former Shirley Ann Sandefur on August 19, 1961.
After high school graduation, Charles enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he was stationed in both San Antinio and Alaska. He was then married to Shirley and worked as a salesman, working for the former Charles Chips in Calhoun, the former Baker Shoe Store, and the former Chumbley Carpet Company both in Owensboro.
Charles attended Eaton Memorial Baptist Church in Owensboro. For many years, Charles led singing at several area Baptist churches, including Truston, Maceo, Glenville, Hall Street, Eaton Memorial and Sorgho Baptist Churches.
Charles is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley Coombs; and a sister, Nancy Coombs of Owensboro.
Private family graveside services will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at the Calhoun Cemetery in McLean County. There will be no public visitation. Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel is handling the arrangements for Charles' family.
The Charles P. Coombs family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Calhoun Cemetery; Iron Fence Restoration Fund; C/O John Howard; 400 Guy Settle Loop; Calhoun, Kentucky 42327.
