It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles Cromp Sr., 89, of Chateaugay. He passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025 at his home under the loving care of his family.
Born on April 12, 1935 in Bellmont, he was the son of Maurice and Blanche (Goodchild) Cromp. They predeceased him.
He was united in marriage to Millicent LaFountain on January 12, 1957 in St. Edmund's Church, Ellenburg. She predeceased him in 2015.
He attended Malone Schools. He owned and operated a dairy farm on the Bunker Hill Road. He was a very hard worker. In 1983, a tractor and baler accident, which could have been fatal, affected him in later years. His quality of life and ability to walk resulted in him having to retire in 2007. He was also a woodcutter in his younger years, cutting pulp for mills in Plattsburgh and Cornwall.
Charles enjoyed to watch baseball and old western movies. He also enjoyed listening to Willie's Roadhouse and Blue Grass Gospel music on Sunday mornings. He also liked spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his daughters, Edith Dumas and her companion, Steve Dubois of Merrill, Sylvia and John Willett of Malone; a son, Daniel Cromp of Chateaugay; a daughter-in-law, Patty Cromp of Chateaugay; five grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; four sisters, Joyce Soucia of Malone, Marilyn Vincent, Beverly Tourville and Linda (Gerald) Russell all of Chateaugay; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his son, Charles Jr.; his daughter, Sandy and her husband Donald Williams; a brother, William Cromp and his wife, Ruth; a sister, Florence and her husband, Richard Cook; and three brothers-in-law, Thomas Soucia, Melvin Vincent and Ronald Tourville.
There will be no calling hours.
A graveside service will be held in Bellmont Center Cemetery in the spring. Following the burial a celebration of Charles' life will be held at his home, 27 Bunker Hill Road.
